So far, I'm loving this book. It's like a science-fiction archaeological mystery. The crew of the Endeavor as so far figured out how to open the door at the axis and has scaled only a fifth of the massive ladder/stare chase. Clarke does a good job of conveying the disorientation of gravity in a spinning cylinder and an excellent job conveying the sense of scale of this massive artifact (it seems its been traveling for thousands of years). A good example of this was change in opinion about one of the survey party about the darkness: rather than a nuisance, it helped to hide the uneasy scale of the colossal staircase.
I also enjoyed the banter of the Rama committee back on the Moon/Earth. They've deduced that Rama was likely an enormous ship/tiny world used to house a fleeing race. What happened to the Ramans?
